Its offerings also include a variety of entertainment, sports, art, and performance areas and centers, aimed at the enjoyment of all.

Emerging from the waters of the ancient channel that Plutarch called the Turia, this mighty river witnessed the founding of Roman Valentia, witnessed legends, and became a muse inspiring various artists throughout the centuries. The enormous footprint it left transformed into a fascinating garden, hosting more than 12,000 trees and a stunning design.

Today we invite you to explore the Turia Garden, the largest urban park in Spain. Embark on a relaxing and fun tour that will give you the opportunity to connect with nature.

The Turia Garden in Valencia: A river that evolved into a park

The Turia Garden is transversely segmented by bridges that connect the city's paths, giving life to the gardens. 18 stretches full of nature. Some of these bridges cross the old channel and weave part of the history, while others stand alongside the park, products of contemporary engineering.

This project, Approved in 1984 under the vision of architect Ricardo Bofill, It is actually a work of art created by various landscapers and urban planners over the years.

A live tribute to the majestic River Turia

The park’s design seeks to blend the natural topography of the canal with the urban essence of the garden. In each section, the vegetation recreates with precision the shapes and contours that once adorned the fluvial landscape of the ancient river.

The historical relationship between Valencia and the magnificent Turia River is undeniable. Its turbulent waters have left indelible marks, leading to the need to divert its original course. However, these waters have also been immortalized in engravings, frescoes, and photographs by various artists throughout history.

Without forgetting the legends surrounding the River Turia, such as the iconic story of the «Dragon of the Patriarch«.

Legend has it that a caiman lived in the banks of the Turia River, turning into a fierce dragon, a beast of colossal proportions. No one in the region dared to challenge it, until a young prisoner offered to face it in exchange for his freedom.

The permit was granted and the young man donned a suit of armor covered in mirrors. He waited patiently until the sun's rays provided him with his opportunity. Standing in front of the dragon, he took advantage of the beast's blindness caused by the armor's reflection and delivered a precise blow with a spear.

It is said that this dissected beast is the same caiman that currently hangs on one of the walls of the Patriarch’s Museum.

The Turia Garden is a vast space for leisure and direct contact with nature, ideal for sports enthusiasts and family outings, as well as for moments of disconnection, pure air, and relaxation. Among the highlights are the following:
